This half-day online, asynchronous course is aimed at registered health care professionals who have previously completed foundation training in ear irrigation and is intentionally designed to prioritise clinical reasoning, patient safety, and evidence-based decision making, rather than the acquisition or reassessment of hands-on or procedural skills.
The update is intended to:
- Refresh underpinning knowledge and decision-making skills
- Support safe and defensible practice
- Enhance recognition of when irrigation is appropriate, inappropriate or unsafe
- Reinforce the importance of alternative management and referral pathways
Where hands-on practice or competency sign-off is required, this must be undertaken locally through supervised clinical practice, in accordance with employer policy, professional standards, and governance arrangements.
